Water-related activities include swimming, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, and paddling. As with many other Florida State Beach Parks, the main draw here is the water, and among the Central East Coast Park, the combination of the Indian River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean can really give visitors a chance to enjoy a variety of environments.
Sunrise City Adventures offers visitors kayaking tours, which shows Fort Pierce Inlet State Park from a completely different angle. The Indian River Lagoon is a truly unique estuary, and exploring it by a guided kayak tour in this area can make it a delightful experience.
Jack Island is a preserve part of the Fort Pierce Inlet State Park, but it's a few miles north. As with many other barrier islands along the Indian River Lagoon, plenty of mangroves exist. There is also an observation tower on the western end of the island.
The Coastal Hammock Trail is the main hike available inside the park. It's a small trail but offers a good view of the natural habitat on the barrier islands. Although visitors can hike this trail at any time, it would be best to do so in the winter due to the humidity and mosquitos that appear in the warmer months.
